M & M GOAT RANCH -- EXERCISE TIPS
- The first few things to understand :
Every goat has it's own personality
Some goats are thicker skinned and heavy muscled -- Some thin skinned with tight
muscles
Some goats will need more exercise than others to get in good "show
condition"
Exercise is a VERY important part to getting your goat in "show
condition"
- Young goats like to "show off" and sometimes will exercise
themselves to a certain degree
- If you have a large enough pen, you can place objects for them to jump up
on and off to get some exercise
You can use spools, home made platforms, etc. -- (if using spools make sure to
cover holes to avoid broken legs and injury)
Even a small dirt mound will help
- Start while they are young -- leading them around with a halter or show
chain, which ever you will need to show with.
- Run your goat for short distances -- goats build muscle better with short
bursts of energy -- they are not long winded so don't over do
- Check the goat for loose skin and fat -- if this condition arises, more
exercise is needed
- If you have a treadmill, you could even use that some for the goat to get
some exercise
- A goat that has been exercised properly will handle better
and give you an advantage in the show ring
